Last night we just had a Passing Out Parade for all the trainees in the unit. Now I'm officially part of the 18th Divisional Air Defence Artillery Battalion, the Divisional Air Defence Group, the Participation Command. WOW. Proud to be wearing my air force beret, because the beret is a nice-looking headdress and air force sounds cool, haha xD Too bad my beret is one size bigger and it's sooo obvious. On Monday I'm gonna buy a new one of the right size. Hopefully I'll look better in it.

Call you quick
But you never really catch me
Who's the trick that is sucking down my pride
You're alone
So baby dont you call me
Ring, ring, ring,
Wasting all my time

tuesdays with morrie
Sunday, June 10, 2012 @ 5:46 PM
Brought a book to driving course to read while waiting for my turn to drive but I unexpectedly finished it within a day.

I bought Tuesdays with Morrie in Sec 4 but I hadn't had the time to read it. So it was left on the bookshelf untouched (except when I shifted house) until very recently. It's a really awesome book and it's a pity that I missed it these few years. It's an emotional book and feels real, in the sense that I can somewhat relate to it. It kinda reminds me of the things I've done in the past, what I could have done, and what I should have done.

The book has made me think about a few things about the future, mainly career, relationships and marriage.

Career. What do I wanna be in future? Ever since secondary school, I've been considering becoming a teacher. I really think it's a fulfilling profession. Being a mentor to a younger generation, shaping their lives. Perhaps that's partly why I like to go back to my old CCAs and talk to them, about work, about life, and offer any help in whatever area I know.

Many people go for the high-flying jobs. Many persuaded me to go FASS because the degree, the institution is more recognised, so getting a job is definitely easier. Well, that's true. But my interest lies more in math. I saw this video that's buzzing around twitter and facebook, which is called 'You Are Not Special'. It encourages people to do things which are meaningful to them, rather going for all the achievements and high-flying stuff which may be less fulfilling.

What am I trying to say here? I want to be a teacher. If I go to FASS, I would definitely take up Economics. And that means I can only teach English. Nahhh, not my cup of tea as a teaching subject. For Math, definitely. I wanna teach something which I do not need to think so much about. So that I can concentrate on students, rather than the subject itself. The content I want to deliver should come naturally from me, and not something I struggle to give.

Well, it's been a convoluted three paragraphs. But the main point is, I want to be a teacher who isn't just a content-only person, but also an important work and life mentor. Yeaahh.

Relationships and marriage. Well, it's a complicated thing. Talk about it some other time.

Journey to the west
Saturday, June 2, 2012 @ 12:16 PM
Driving course started this week and it's been not too bad so far. Got to meet new people like the OCTs and the SCTs who are quite nice and awesome people. I must say I respect these cadets. Once the day ends and it's own our personal admin time, they switch over to PT mode. Non-stop physical training until about 8plus, 9plus. Skipping rope, run, pull ups, statiscs, skipping rope again. Meanwhile in the operators' bunk, lepaking is in progress xD

There's also this very nice encik attached to us for the course. Suppperrr nice. He helped us out with area cleaning for a couple of times and he's super good at it. We kinda tried to persuade him to stop since it's our responsibility but he always says "it's okay la. nevermind. a bit only. not to worry." So we kinda gave up trying to stop him. Oh ,and one evening there was a power failure and the tech guy could only come at 10.30pm. Encik actually stayed behind until the tech guy came to fix it. Only then he went home. First time in my military life I actually see an encik that's soooo nice. Even the cadets said the same thing heh.

So while waiting for the tech guy to come, encik shared with us many of his interesting 'theories'. Like 'the moon effect'. Basically he thinks that the position of the moon may cause chemical and hormonal changes in a person, bringing about changes in emotions, feelings and thoughts. I somewhat agree with it too. Perhaps not only the position of the moon, but the celestial position and alignment of planets. Don't you think that at certain parts of the month or year, you feel off form? Like feeling stressed, anxious, lethargic, frustrated, irritated or suddenly losing your confidence.

Perhaps by a matter of coincidence, my friend's horoscope readings appeared on twitter and it prompted me to find out my own. Not sure what came over me xD Anyway they turned out to be pretty accurate.
